OVERVIEW
Grades may be imported as a CSV or XML file, or by pasting from a spreadsheet. The import file format is the same as the corresponding export format.
WARNING: If this is your first time attempting this, rather create a blank test course to experiment.
SET UP YOUR GRADING CRITERIA
Before you export your working template and continue to import grades, it is important to ensure that your gradebook is set up according to your preferences and contains all relevant grade items.
EXPORT YOUR WORKING TEMPLATE
Step 1: In the relevant course gradebook, click on the "Export" tab, then select (1) your preferred export format and (2) the grade items to be included in your download. Optionally, (3) set your export format options.
Once you're happy, click on "Download" and your grade items will be neatly exported in the format that you set up.
Step 2: You can now override or add results.
Step 3: Save this new file under a new name and in CSV format as shown below.
IMPORT GRADES TO COURSE
Step 1: In your relevant course gradebook, click on the "Import" tab, select your import format, upload your CSV file and decide on the amount of preview rows, then click on "Upload grades."
Step 2: You can preview your import, then decide on your identifier to link the Excel field to your LMS user (using a unique ID or Email address is best practice).
Step 3: Set your options carefully to link your Excel fields to the corresponding grade items and ignore fields that you do not want to override.
Please note that this will override your current gradebook.
Once you're happy, you can click on "Upload grades" and your imported grades will reflect in your gradebook.
Imported grades will be highlighted in yellow to indicate that they have been overridden.
