Import / Duplicate Course Content

Import / Duplicate Course Content

OVERVIEW

Course content can be imported from one course to another. This allows course creators to re-use activities or resources instead of having to re-create them.
USE CASE EXAMPLE:

Duplicating course content in a Learning Management System (LMS) can be highly beneficial in various scenarios where you want to create new courses that are similar to existing ones or when you need to update and modify courses efficiently. Here's a use case example of how duplicating course content can be useful:

Annual Compliance Training Updates

Scenario: A large organization is required to provide annual compliance training to its employees to ensure they are aware of the latest legal and regulatory changes. The compliance training consists of multiple modules covering topics such as workplace safety, ethics, and data protection. These modules contain a lot of content, including videos, quizzes, and reference materials.

In this use case, duplicating course content in the LMS streamlines the process of updating and delivering annual compliance training. It saves time, ensures consistency, and helps organizations stay compliant with changing regulations while providing a more efficient and effective learning experience for employees.
A. If you want to duplicate an entire existing course, you need to create a new blank course before importing content.

B. Alternatively, you can import content into existing courses.

Ensure that you are in the course into which content will be imported.

IMPORT CONTENT

Step 1: In the relevant course, click on "Course admin."

Step 2: Then, in the "Course administration" tab, click on "Import."

Step 3: You will be prompted to set your various import preferences.

(1) Select the existing course from which content should be imported.

(2) Select which settings from the existing course should be included in your import.

NOTE: When you tick the "Include calendar events" box, it will import all events and event reminders from the original course to the newly created course. But, because it is a new course with a new start/creation date, the dates of those events will be affected and not stay the same as the original course dates (The course from which you are importing). Please ensure that after you've imported the content, to check if all your dates are set up correctly.
(3) Select the activities and resources that should be included in your import.

(4) Review and confirm your import settings.

(5) Once the import is complete, you will receive a notification.

You can now "Continue" and view your imported content.
