OVERVIEW
The learning path enrollment method allows you to create a chain of courses that succeed one another. So after completion of one course, the student is automatically enrolled in one or more other courses.
USE CASE EXAMPLE:
Learning Path Enrollment for Employee Skill Advancement
In a Learning Management System (LMS) used for internal staff training, learning path enrollment is employed to automate the progression of employees through a structured curriculum. Here's an example of how this feature can be beneficial:
Scenario: A medium-sized technology company wants to upskill its software development team in various programming languages. They utilize learning path enrollment to create a structured learning journey for their developers:
- Initial Assessment: Employees take an initial assessment within the LMS to determine their current skill levels in different programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++).
- Customized Learning Paths: Based on the assessment results, the LMS automatically assigns each employee to a customized learning path. For instance, those with intermediate Java skills are enrolled in an "Intermediate Java Development" learning path, while those with basic Python skills are directed to a "Python Fundamentals" learning path.
In this use case, learning path enrollment in the LMS allows the technology company to efficiently and effectively upskill its software development team by automating the progression of employees through customized learning paths. It ensures that employees receive targeted training, fosters skill development, and provides valuable data for ongoing improvement.
ENABLE LEARNING PATH ENROLLMENT
Step 1: In the relevant course, click on "Enrollment methods."
Step 2: From the "Add method" drop-down list, select "Learning path."
Step 3: To configure the enrollment settings, you can (1) select "Yes" to enable the learning path, (2) select the default role that will be assigned to users enrolled via this method, (3) optionally enable and set a period of time for which the enrollment will be valid, (4) select the course which users will be required to complete before being enrolled into this course, (5) select whether or not to add users to the same course groups as in the pre-requisite course, and (6) optionally enable and enter a custom course welcome message.
Once you're happy, scroll down and click on "Add method."
Your learning path enrollment method will now be displayed under "Enrollment methods" and all users who complete the pre-requisite course will be enrolled for your course.
Note: Ensure that other enrollment methods are turned off or hidden if you want only this enrollment method to be used.
